Our Aim

We, the Gypsies , have had serious problems around the world throughout history. The most important of them are disparagements and an intolerable poverty which sometimes reaches to a deep starvation. Today, we can understand the reasons behind these problems better.

The most important reason behind our problems is the lack of understanding us by the people we live together with. Throughout history, human being s ha ve been afraid of “the different” and “the incomprehensible” and chosen to keep themselves away from them. The tragic events built a wall between the Gypsies and the other parts of society. Whereas a ll people are equal and this reality is independent from their social origins. When we understand each other we will see that our essence is the same.

As cingeneyiz.org , our first aim is to solve the problem of incomprehension between Gypsies and people living together with Gypsies. We believe that this is a vital key to overcome the matters of Gypsies.

Through out history, Gypsies have established tight connections with the countries they lived in. We see ourselves as a component of Turkey, too. The Gypsies of Turkey are a part of Turkish nation . The current Turkish Constitution does not describe the Turkish nation according to belonging to a specific race . All the citizens of Turkish Republic are the members of the Turkish nation. In this sense, we are conscientious ly activating with the responsibility not just to Gypsies, but also to our nation and all humanity.

The citizenship brings rights and obligations to all citizens. Gypsies have these rights and are responsible to fulfill these obligations. Unfortunately, some people do not care that we are equal citizens who have fundamental rights . Obviously, disparagements that we witness are contrary to the principle of equality which is guaranteed by the Contitution. The problems of employment, education and housing increase the poverty of Gypsies and the distance between Gypsies and the other parts of our society.

As cingeneyiz.org , we believe that specific and distinctive rights cannot be useful to overcome the difficulties. Minority rights which are given to different ethnic groups and communities will not solve the problems of Gypsies. We evaluate ourselves as equal citizens of this country, not a minority.

If some minority rights are given to a stratified society, there will be no protective norms which guarantee the individual rights that prevent the individual against the oppression of the people in her / his own community. Common citizen rights are the only effective means that can protect the individual against the strict and despotic control of the group.

Our problems can be solved through putting the rights -which we possess according to the Turkish Constitution- into practice in everyday life and overcoming the difficulties concerning this problem. Through this internet site, we will make an effort to inform people about this problem. It is necessary that every citizen understands that the Gypsies have all citizenship rights like everyone. We will reflect our culture and depict the problems of Gypsies.

To sum up our aim is to complete “the half” ! (In Turkey, there is saying that Gypsies are not complete beings but half.)
